Summer is Here! Tap into Your Inner Triathlete – Interview with Jacquie Mardell of La Dolce Velo


For the month of July our Marketing Coordinator, Davida Brooks, had an interview with Jacquie Mardell, owner of La Dolce Velo.

From origins of a fundraising operations site to full service bicycle shop for cyclists and tri-atheletes; La Dolce Velo is your neighborhood bicycle shop located in San Jose. Owned by Jacquie & Robert Mardell.

Davida Brooks: How did you get started?
Jacquie Mardell: Eight years ago my husband and I hosted a fundraising operations in our garage to raise money for the Leukemia & Lymphoma society. From there we moved out of the garage into a boutique shop serving tri-athletes with an emphasis on female riders. As our family needs changed we took the opportunity to leap into entrepreneurship and have served the mid to high-end road cycling & tri-athlete market ever since.

DB: What products & services does La Dolce Velo offer?

JM: In the summertime people are training for events and taking biking trips with the family. All year we have Saturday morning shop rides for the intermediate level rider with Sunday morning shop rides for the beginner level riders. We also host Wednesday intermediate rides in the late afternoon. (See summer schedule here.) On the Third Tuesday of each month we offer a free clinic covering topics from maintenance, changing a flat tire, going down a mountain road, and a variety of other very helpful topics.

DB: Do you have any upcoming events?
JM: Our annual client appreciation is in August, it’s a really fun event that we have to thank our clients and the community for their support. It is a full weekend sale with a party on Saturday complete with raffle prizes. You can also check out our (Facebook) page for upcoming events.

DB: Wow, sounds like a great event! Are you thanking people who are current customers?
JM: Anyone who walks in the door gets appreciated.

DB: Would you share a recent success story? Has someone come into your shop not sure they can ride and now doing tri-athalons?
JM: (laughs) we actually did had a customer come in the other day with a fabulous testimonial. I will read it to you – “Thank you for all your support – as I set off on the best bike, having been served by your top-notch crew, wearing the most awesome kit ever on the AIDS Lifecycle ride; I want to say a big fat Thank You for all you do!”
